WP13-D132: Results summary of WP13: Closure in CSNs

This workpackage investigates the distinctive control system phenomena arising from closure properties in the dynamics of computational CSN systems. These properties relate to known phenomena in Artificial Chemistries such as Alchemy, Tierra and the alpha-universes. This report first examines how CSNs can be considered as computational devices, this is then followed by a review of the literature on the area of modeling and evolving CSNs. Following this, we present our novel class of Artificial Chemistry: the Molecular Classifier Systems (MCS) which we expect will allows us to explore the closure properties of CSNs. An instance of the MCS based on the broadcast language is discussed. We finally present the research contributions that have been published to date which best outline the results so far generated in this workpackage.
